Penang: Daytime Discovering

I hope you like photos? I got a bit snap-happy today, eek!
So we started our Penang adventures with a trip to Penang hill. Unfortunately it was really cloudy and we couldn’t see even a few metres ahead. Instead, we sat in David Browns restaurant for a coffee, hoping the fast wind would shift the heavy cover.
We were in luck! The cloud began to clear, revealing the city below. It made it feel like we were being let in on a little secret, and was more magical than if it had been immediately visible.

At 11am we had to head back down as Sarah was leaving us for the airport and had a taxi to catch. We jumped in the best seats in the house, and rode our way back down the funicular.

Whilst Sarah caught a lift to the airport, we took ourselves off to the National Park. From the main entrance you can choose to visit the suspension bridge, turtle beach and monkey beach, amongst other things. You can trek to any of these or jump on a boat around. After a long, drawn-out miscommunication we managed to interpret that the suspension bridge wasn’t that great and the turtles weren’t actually free, roaming the beach, but in boxes. Disappointing.
Fortunately we’re all about monkeys anyway, so we set off on the beautiful trek.

It was a great walk – well marked but with the right amount of ducking and diving required. If you abide by the rules you might see some great nature too…

After plenty of jungley mud we found a brilliant beach. Perfect for fighting and flying practice…

After a little more clambering around we stumbled out upon Monkey Beach.
The monkeys were all sleeping off the lunchtime diners food, so we had a bit of reprieve whilst we ate our locally cooked food under a little hut, surrounded by beach, sand, and palm trees.

…and then it was home time. Hols manned the helm and got us safely back to shore. A great day out and I can’t recommend it enough.
